On an island somewhere in the middle of the Pacific, a certain phenomenon and a resulting millennia old cultural tradition exist. Once every 3 years, forecasted by the koi fish in the island's shrine ponds bleeding from the gills, an ancient primordial deity taking the shape of a colossal manta ray large enough to expand across the horizon flies miles above the ocean, blocking out the sun and causing an eclipse for several days. In the darkness below, bioluminescent flora light up the rainforests and surrounding sea. Inhabitants partake in an island-wide festival utilizing alternative light sources such as the plant life, pyrotechnics, pyromancy, and most recently, glow sticks. The closest direct translation from local language dubs these festivals "Manta Raves" and they are said to honor one's ancestors and ward off misfortune.
